Position Description:

This position will have a primary focus in assisting the Financial Aid Resource Lab in advising potential students, parents, and other community members on the FAFSA /ORSAA process, scholarships, and other financial aid related processes.

Provide a wide variety of support to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Assist the office in answering phones and emails, and creating and maintaining forms. Inform, instruct and recommend options to students at the frontline. Assist in organizing meetings, webinars, and events. Work with students, college staff, and the college community to provide information/materials regarding all aspects of financial aid.
Explain, inform and recommend options to students at the frontline; providing them with information, instructions and recommend options so they can complete the financial aid process.

Assist the OFAS in monitoring/answering the Financial Aid phones and emails; answer or direct questions/concerns to the appropriate Financial Aid Specialist. Provide students, college staff, and the college community information/material regarding all aspects of financial aid. Review information and forms submitted by students to determine completeness and communicate with student or refer to the appropriate Financial Aid Specialist.

Assist students with basic technology issues related to financial aid information in the student portal.

Perform a variety of clerical duties, such as processing mail, monitoring the incoming/outgoing fax, preparing meeting agenda/minutes, sorting documents, scanning, ordering and tracking supplies, and other duties as assigned.

Participate in departmental and college wide meetings as necessary.

Maintain cooperative working relationship with College staff, other organizations, and the public.

Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate.  Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.  Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Associate's Degree and one year of related experience, or three year of related experience, or any satisfactory combination of experiences and training which demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of basic financial aid concept, terminology, and processes. Knowledge of general office practice, grammar/spelling, and positive customer service. Knowledge of practices and guidelines pertaining to community colleges, general business operations, processes, and procedures. 
SKILL: Skill in trouble shooting and problem solving financial aid issues; skill in dealing with high level of challenging customer service; s, monitoring and deciphering reports kill in the use of personal computers; office software programs including MS applications such as Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel; phone system; and standard use of office equipment and procedures.

ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff, other agencies, and the general public; manage time effectively; read and interpret policies, regulations and laws as they relate to this job; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including the ability to provide customer service and support to individuals and groups with varying degrees of complexity; maintain a high degree of discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
