Position Description:
The financial aid counselor manages the processing of federal and private educational loans; reviews financial aid applications; uses independent judgement to determine whether or not to request additional information from families to resolve conflicting information as required by federal regulations; assures the accuracy of information about income and assets reported on the aid application; performs needs analysis using the corrected information on the aid application; on the basis of the needs analysis, determines eligibility for federal, state and institutional financial aid sources; uses independent judgement to counsel families and students in person, by phone, e-mail, and at CAS, GSEC, and/or LAW Admissions events about the financial aid process in general as well as potentially complex and confidential family-specific situations; performs federally regulated application verification, including using judgement and interpretation of federal guidance to determine if the documents submitted by the student and family satisfy the needs of the verification process; and collaborates with HR and the Business office on the reconciliation of Federal Work-Study funding. The counselor is responsible for understanding and interpreting policies and regulations related to federal, state, and institutional financial aid funding sources. The counselor also assists with other duties and projects in the office based on office needs and the skills and experiences of the incumbent.
