Position Description:
Acts as primary financial aid contact for prospective and current students, parents, members of the campus community, and the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides general information at the counter, by phone, and by e-mail.
  • Advises prospective and current students and families on financial aid eligibility, processes, procedures, policies, and regulations.  Assists students with verification process.
  • Manages prospective and current student mailings, communications, and financial aid notifications.
  • Processes incoming scholarship checks.
  • Works collaboratively with Student Accounts to resolve student and family issues with billing statements.
  • Schedules appointments for counseling staff members.
  • Processes and routes incoming mail.
  • Sends and records receipt of financial aid documents.
  • Manages and archives financial aid recipients’ files.
  • Conducts quality control assessment of financial aid recipients’ files.
  • Manages office budget.
  • Monitors and orders office supplies.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises/assigns Financial Aid Office student employees.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists with maintenance of financial aid web pages.
  • Documents proceedings in staff meetings and retreats, and maintains log of action items.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of student communications and suggests improvements.

JOB SCOPE:

  • Performs duties independently with minimal supervision, operating from specific and definite directions and instructions.
  • Decisions are of a routine nature made within prescribed operating guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Mistakes/errors may result in poor customer relations, which can have negative financial implications for the university.

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises student employees.  Responsibilities include training, evaluation, counseling, and discipline.
