Position Description:
CLATSOP COMMUNITY COLLEGE - Assistant Director Financial Aid

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Financial Aid Director, performs highly complex duties in an automated contemporary financial aid environment. Provides coordination, advice and guidance to students and families regarding college cost and financial aid. Establishes student eligibility and awards financial aid to eligible students. This position also functions as the School Certifying Official (SCO) for VA Education Benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Establishes student financial aid eligibility for all Title IV grant, work, and loan programs. Resolves student eligibility issues and conflicting information. Performs professional judgements, need analysis and verification.
  2. Package and award all forms of institutional, state, and federal financial aid.
  3. Advise students and parents on college cost and financial aid, including advising and monitoring students regarding available assistance, eligibility issues, required documentation, processes, policies and procedures.
  4. Exercises discretion and professional judgment on a case-by-case basis regarding student eligibility, income issues, independent status and interpreting data used to determine student eligibility and awarding all forms of financial aid based on that judgment. Make professional financial aid decisions based on established institutional, state, and federal policy
  5. Manages U.S. Department of Education electronic data exchange and electronic interface with institutional data system.
  6. Keeps current with regulatory guidance and attends trainings to learn about changes to state and federal requirements. Assists the Director in the development of office policies and procedures that maintain compliance.
  7. Conducts virtual financial aid workshops to future students, current students, and community agencies.
  8. Maintain school eligibility and reporting requirements with the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Serves as lead for compliance audits.
  9. Verify student eligibility and certify students for VA Education Benefits.
  10. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Educational and Experience- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three (3) years of full-time directly related financial aid work experience (financial aid administration, financial aid processing with program responsibility).

Requires prior experience with computer systems, operations, and database management. Experience with federal financial aid regulations, COD and NSLDS.

Remote Work Option – Open to remote work for candidates residing in the state of Oregon.

Knowledge Required:

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of institutional, state and federal financial aid rules and regulations regarding student eligibility, awarding and disbursement of financial aid funds.
  • Functional knowledge and access to United States Department of Education ED Suite, Common Origination and Disbursement, National Student Loan Data System and FAA Access to CPS Online.
  • Functional knowledge and access to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, VAOnce.
  • Overall knowledge of contemporary practices of financial aid professionals.

  • Skill in interpersonal communications as applied to interaction with prospective and current students, families, faculty and staff.
  • Skill in making verbal and written presentations.
  • Skill in organization and leadership.
  • Skill in prioritizing multiple tasks and projects.
  • Attention to detail, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and handle confidential matters with discretion.
